PLAYER NOTES
--RB Clinton Portis (muscle spasms in back) sat out practice Friday and is listed as questionable, although coach Jim Zorn expects him to play Sunday. "He's working out the kinks," Zorn said. "It would have to be pretty severe for him to stay out."
--LB Marcus Washington returned to full practice on Thursday for the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain on Nov. 16 against Dallas.
-- OT Jon Jansen didn't practice again on Friday after sitting out last week with a sprained left knee and is expected to miss the Philadelphia game.
--MLB London Fletcher was limited on Thursday after not practicing since he sprained his left foot on Nov. 23 at Seattle. Fletcher has played the past three games with the injury.
--G Pete Kendall (knees) returned on Thursday after not practicing as usual on Wednesday but is expected to start on Sunday.
--DT Cornelius Griffin practiced again on Thursday after sitting out last week with an abdominal strain.
--SS Chris Horton practiced again on Thursday after sitting out last week with a sprained shoulder.
GAME PLAN: The Redskins have been a mess offensively for five of their past six games, losing all five and not topping 13 points or 280 yards in the losses. They need to get their eight-ranked ground game going to take some pressure off their 19th-ranked passing attack. Doing so against an Eagles defense that ranks third against the run and fourth against the pass figures to be difficult except that Washington produced 386 yards (a season-high 203 on the ground) while rallying to win 23-17 in Week 5 in Philadelphia. Pro Bowl tight end Chris Cooley hasn't scored since that game. New starting tackles Stephon Heyer and Jason Fabini can't be overrun by Eagles ends Trent Cole and Juqua Parker.
Washington's nosedive hasn't been the fault of the fifth-ranked defense. However, that unit failed to get off the field in tight games during the losing streak against Dallas, Baltimore and Cincinnati. The defense has also been a factor in Washington falling behind 10-0 to the Giants and 14-0 to the Ravens and the Bengals in the first quarter the past three weeks. Stopping all-purpose back Brian Westbrook is always mission No. 1 for the Redskins' defense, but there's also concern about veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb and speedy rookie receiver DeSean Jackson. Cornerback Carlos Rogers and weak side linebacker Rocky McIntosh, both benched last week, could come out firing against the Eagles.
MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Redskins RB Clinton Portis vs. Eagles MLB Stewart Bradley -- In a year when the Redskins hardly score, how Clinton Portis produces often determines how the team does. The Redskins are 6-1 when the Pro Bowl running back rushes for at least 85 yards and 1-6 when he doesn't. Portis went for 121 yards in the Week 5 victory at Philadelphia to start a five-game streak with 120 yards. The only time he reached that level since was Week 12 at Seattle, the only victory during the past six games.
Redskins LBs London Fletcher and Rocky McIntosh vs. Eagles RB Brian Westbrook: The Redskins are in flux at linebacker with Marcus Washington hoping to return to the strong side after missing four weeks with a high ankle sprain and with weak side starter Rocky McIntosh having been benched at halftime last week. The Redskins can count on middle man Fletcher (team-high 126 tackles) as they try to control Westbrook, who torched them the past two years but who was ailing when the teams met in Week 5.
INJURY IMPACT: If Jansen doesn't play for a second straight week, Jason Fabini will start again at RT. Stephon Heyer is starting for LT Chris Samuels, who's out for the year. If Washington returns, H.B. Blades will go back to the bench.
