Washington Redskins Notes, Quotes 2009-04-10
--The Redskins declined comment on April 2 after the news broke that the Titans had filed tampering charges with the NFL regarding the signing of defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who agreed to terms on a seven-year, $100 million contract with the Redskins five hours into the free agency signing period on Feb. 27. The Redskins denied the allegations when they first surfaced last month.

--He wasn't happy about taking the veteran minimum of $845,000 after having his $2.155 million contract voided before the start of free agency, but defensive end Phillip Daniels ended a 5-week absence from the roster by re-signing on April 2.

"With my age and my injury, I understand where the Redskins are coming from," said Daniels, who missed all of 2008 after tearing his left ACL and MCL on the first snap of training camp. "I'm happy to get it out of the way. Nothing's changed. I've still got my locker. I've always had a good feeling about the Redskins. Kedric (Golston), Clinton (Portis) and the guys were all happy to see me. They said they were glad I was back, but I told them that's because I do all the (iPod) music for you guys."

Daniels, who turned 36 while a free agent, said that his agent had heard from the Broncos, Patriots and Titans, but none wanted to sign him until after the draft and all were offering the same contract as the Redskins. So when he decided that he didn't want his career to end with the injury, the choice was easy. He is slated to compete for his old job with pal Renaldo Wynn, who re-signed on Mar. 24 after two years away from the Redskins.

"I've been with coach Blache for 10 years," Daniels said. "I know the system so well. The coaches all told me they wanted me back. I'm so close to so many of the guys. And now Renaldo's back. I don't know who's going to start (at left end). I don't mind being a backup. I just want to win a championship."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We met with Jason (Campbell) today and had a candid discussion. We told Jason that when Jay Cutler became available we, like many other NFL teams, spoke with the Broncos. We are all on the same page and we are moving forward." -- Redskins executive vice president Vinny Cerrato in a statement issued on April 3.
