
The Norfolk Sports Club announced former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann will be the guest speaker for the 2009 Jamboree on Feb. 23 at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel.
Theismann, who spent 11 seasons with Washington, led the Redskins to their Super Bowl XVII victory over the Miami Dolphins in 1982. The following season, the Redskins went 14-2 in the regular season but lost to the L.A. Raiders in Super Bowl XVIII.

odu's brown scores upset
TROY, N.Y. | Old Dominion's Chris Brown (165) won three matches, including a 2-1 upset of No. 1 Nick Marable of Missouri , helping the Monarchs finish 2-1 at the Journeyman/ Brute Northeast Duals.
ODU defeated Harvard 38-9 and Bloomsburg 30-6, but fell to No. 5 Missouri 29-9.
Sophomore James Nicholson (125) won three matches to improve to 9-0 on the season and Eric Decker posted a 2-0 record at 174 pounds.
ODU's three dual losses have come against No. 5 Missouri, No. 7 Oklahoma State and No.\18 Oklahoma. The Monarchs won't be back in action until Dec. 20 when they host Northern Iowa.

merritt's coach honored
INDIANAPOLIS | Dwayne Miller, who coached LaShawn Merritt to two gold medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, was named the Nike Coach of the Year by USA Track & Field.
Miller has been the coach of Norfolk Real Deal Track Club since 1991. In 2004, he was named USOC Developmental Coach of the Year for mentoring hundreds of youth as head coach of the club. His athletes include 17 national champions and 40 All-Americans.
Miller will be honored Dec.\6 at the Jesse Owens Awards and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

beach mustangs advance
Brenden O'Neil scored two TDs to lead the Virginia Beach Mustangs past the Union Road Jaguars (Gastonia, N.C.) in the Pee-Wee regional championship. The Mustangs advance to next weekend's national championship in Orlando, Fla.
