1. Brett Favre
The Jets quarterback had a terrible game against the Chargers on Monday night. Favre looked like the Packers quarterback who threw nine more interceptions than touchdowns in 2005 and 2006 with Green Bay, repeatedly chucking off of his back foot. While he certainly improved his chemistry with Laveranues Coles, it was clear that Favre just isn't comfortable yet in the Jets' offense and with his new receivers. Plus, Favre rolled his ankle when he was sacked by Jyles Tucker and hobbled to his postgame press conference.
The Jets are 1-2. The bye is in week 5. There is a major difference between 1-3 and 2-2. Sunday's game against the Cardinals is a huge one for the Jets.
Jason Campbell was highly successful against the Cards' secondary last Sunday. Favre needs to make plays in the passing attack while the Jets don't abandon the run and look to get Leon Washington more involved. It's a huge game for Favre.

2. Ken Whisenhunt
For the record, I liked Whisenhunt's decision to stay in the D.C. area between Arizona's games in Washington and New York. Why take four long flights if you can take two? But Whisenhunt fair or unfair will be taken to task if Arizona loses to the Jets. And with 'Zona starting 2-0 and then dropping the game to the Skins, this suddenly becomes a rather large game for the Cards on FOX this Sunday. Are they legit or the same old Arizona? I think they're legit. We will find out. The NFC West is up for grabs.
3. Brady Quinn
I'm putting Quinn on the hot seat instead of Derek Anderson because Anderson is already burnt. I know Anderson has been named the starter for this game, but Romeo Crennel opened up a can of worms when he told the media he was getting Quinn ready to quarterback his 0-3 team. Quinn better have a big week of practice. And when he gets his chance to play, and I am thinking he will play vs. the Bengals at some point on Sunday, Quinn needs to bring it against a poor Bengals defense.
4. Chad Johnson/Ocho Cinco
It's amazing how irrelevant whatever-his-name-is has become. In 3 games, Johnson/Ocho Cinco has exactly ocho catches. He used to get 100 receiving yards in a game with regularity. Johnson/Ocho Cinco doesn't even have 100 yards receiving for the season! It's Browns week for the Bengals. Remember when he used to send the defensive backs bottles of Pepto Bismol? Johnson/Ocho Cinco had a huge drop vs. the Giants in the red zone last week. I am eager to see what he does in the battle of Ohio.
5. Rashard Mendenhall
Welcome to the NFL! Pittsburgh's first-round pick gets a gigantic test Monday night in his first start subbing for the injured Willie Parker against the nasty Ravens defense. Mendenhall had major fumbling problems in the preseason, to the extent that he had to carry a football around with him at the team facility. The Steelers offensive line got abused by the Eagles last week. Rex Ryan's defense is loaded with megastars and playmakers who will smell fresh meat.
6. Trent Green
Just when you think you've seen it all the Rams bench Marc Bulger, who's a rare player on the hapless Rams where you can say he's part of the solution and not the problem. Bulger is an excellent quarterback who has to deal with an inept offensive line, defense and coaching staff. There's a reason he got a major financial commitment from the team last July. We've been told the move to bench Bulger in favor of Trent Green was "all Scott Linehan." How Bulger is on the bench and Linehan still has a job is remarkable. Trent Green doesn't have a chance.
7. Saints defense
It's never easy going up against J.T. O'Sullivan and the Niners.
Did I just write that?
O'Sullivan has been great the past two weeks two San Fran wins. The Saints' defense was torched by Jay Cutler after Jason Campbell put the heat on with big plays in week 2. The New Orleans defense is giving up 259 yards per game in the air. It's a spot where the Saints, losers of two straight, must beat the Niners at home. The defense must deliver.
8. Jacksonville
I have dubbed the Jags "America's team" because they constantly finish dead last in a Harris Interactive Poll that evaluates team popularity. My goal in life is to get the Jags up to the 31st slot in the rankings.
I cannot yell and scream in these economic times to spend your money on anything you don't want to. But it's worth noting that the Florida Gators sell out. The Jags are coming off a "save the season" win in Indy against their biggest rival. Jack Del Rio's bunch plays an unreal brand of football. I expect to see the fans fill the stadium against AFC South foe Houston this weekend.
I'll never forget the Week 16 game in 2004 between the two clubs in Jacksonville when the Jags controlled their own destiny and the place was half-empty.
9. Gary Kubiak
Houston's had a lot to deal with in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. But that doesn't excuse the Texans' totally lackluster performance in Tennessee last week. The offensive line was awful. Matt Schaub was worse. And the defense didn't play up to expectations.
I believed the Texans could be pretty good this year. They've been destroyed in both games they've played against Pittsburgh and Tennessee. Houston cannot get blown out in Jacksonville.
Most especially, Kubiak has hurt his own cause in both games this year with highly questionable decisions on 4th-and-1 situations.
Fantasy Land
We are 2-1 in the SNY league. We won last week. The opposing team benched Ronnie Brown. That's right. But I won't rub it in. That squad is managed by the producer of Mets baseball on SNY. He's got enough to worry about.
