Agent Drew Rosenhaus told FOXSports.com that he met with Redskins officials Thursday morning to discuss a contract extension for McIntosh, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
Despite having suffered two torn knee ligaments in late 2007, McIntosh returned last season to start a career-high 15 games at weak-side linebacker. He finished with 87 tackles, two sacks and five passes defensed. McIntosh also notched his first career interception.
A 2006 second-round draft choice, McIntosh is slated to earn $530,000 in 2009. Under the rules of the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, McIntosh will be a restricted free agent in 2010 because the number of accrued seasons required to become an unrestricted free agent jumps from four to six.
After starting two games as a rookie, McIntosh blossomed in 2007 with 87 tackles in 14 games.
